Avi Talala was born in Ethiopia in 1979. He made aliyah to Israel in 1984. He went to school in Beer Sheva and Netanya. He has a B.A. in education, sociology and anthropology from Haifa University. Avi is now studying at Tel Aviv University for an additional degree in management and leadership in education. He is also studying at Beit Berl College for a teaching degree.
Avi started as a youth leader in Netanya, and is today the Manager of the Community Center in Hefzibah. He is co-founder and leader of the "Journey to Identity" program together with Dr. Vuvit Mangisto. In this program, Avi takes groups of Israeli teenagers on a journey studying Zionism, patriotism, leadership, heritage and empowerment. The program ends with a 7-day trip to Ethiopia following Ethiopian Jewish roots and Jewish identity.
Avi is married to Tikvah. They have three young children (aged 6, 4 and 1 year).
