With No One Near
Once more:
If a tree falls onto some far-off forest floor
when there isn't anyone around;
If there is no one near enough to hear,
would its lonesome falling make a sound?
Suppose, as it lay dying on the ground,
our fallen tree emits some final sigh or moan,
Though these emissions agitate the air,
they never enter or resound in any ear;
Then would they have ever made a sound?
My response to this issue may not be profound,
since I merely voice an age-old fear:
No one should ever have to die alone,
with no one near enough to care.
No more.
