When Closing and Opening Parties Coincide

This has been a strange and unsettling time. You all know why. And so, when the VOLUME Center in east Netanya sent out invitations to come and hear, watch and enjoy the young talents being cultivated and encouraged by the Center it was my opportunity to experience both the joy and the frustrations of the VOLUME kids.

VOLUME Center East Netanya is an ESRA Netanya, branch project financed jointly with the Netanya Municipality and under the supervision of the Community Center Company. The performance was held at the "Sefi Rivlin" Cultural Center in Kiriyat Hasharon, Netanya.

So, what's so strange about this celebration?

The printed program distributed at the beginning of the evening described the lineup of performers and performances for the COMMENCEMENT of their year's activities……. which was to have taken place right smack in the middle of the Corona pandemic and therefore did not take place.

The poster advising of the performance held on 15th September 2020 advertised the OPENING PERFORMANCE of this year's VOLUME project…… So unfolds our life under corona - endings and beginnings coincide.

In addition, what was to take place that evening for these youngsters was a combination of joy in their talents and achievements and sadness in having to part ways with two of their popular, successful and loved instructors – Yitzhak Tamana and Iris Mari.

They are leaving to advance their respective careers after providing years of advice and encouragement to successive generations of VOLUME youngsters. We are confident that their replacements will be as loved and successful as their predecessors.

The show opened with thanks and appreciation to all involved. Shiri Haguel, Deputy Mayor of Netanya, spoke enthusiastically of the contribution to the youth of our city. She thanked ESRA together with Smadar Dromi, Director of the East Netanya Community Centers, and Eliran Moyal, Manager of the Neot Ganim Community Center in particular, for their continuing involvement and support for the VOLUME Center.

Last year, due to ESRA's partnership in this project, 16 children from our Students Build a Community Project took part in both theater and music in the Center. They were a source of joy and pride for us to see on stage.

And on to the music! Some 20 talented youngsters put on a show to remember…. Unselfconscious voices rose in songs of various styles and rhymes. Israeli songs, jazz, blues, pop music. All were well represented along with dancing and the wonderful musical instrumental accompaniment, all by the talented youths of our city.

Videos from the actual performances are on Facebook. The photos from the evening all portray the enjoyment and pride felt by everyone – performers, parents and family and members of the organizations involved in making the VOLUME Center possible. Looking forward to many more entertaining evenings from these talented and charming youngsters.
