Monty Groundland 1923 – 2020
Ruth Klineberg Ferguson
I was privileged to have a close friendship with Monty. He and his wife Sara, came to live in Israel around the same time as we did. They were from Glasgow and we were from Leeds.
It wasn't Monty's first Israeli experience - he came in 1948 as a volunteer soldier and stayed about a year.
He was without question the most gentle man I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. He had a quick sense of humor and a great love of every kind of music.
Everyone who knew him adored him and his marriage with Sara has been likened to a "fairytale". Their family became quite a dynasty with six grandchildren plus everything that goes with it. His calm nature and fun-loving demeanor was a perfect combination for the patriarch of this lovely family.
His favorite record was of Frank Sinatra singing "I did it my way", but Monty's way was the best.
Rest in Peace Montyli
