Israeli Style was Height of Fashion

Fifty ESRAites from Netanya, Raanana and Tel Aviv boarded an ESRA bus to take them on the once-a-month trip, this time to Israel Museum in Jerusalem, to see the fashion that has existed throughout Israel's history. We saw beautiful dresses/outfits born out of the Ata factory at the beginning of our fabric industry to toplevel designers such as Maskit whose high level of hand craftsmanship was second to none.

It was a very proud moment to realize that Israeli designers who started life at Shenkar College ended up as worldwide designer names. As if that wasn't enough, we were taken to the Russian exhibition of avant garde artists who throughout the Lenin and Stalin eras thumbed their noses at the strict Russian bureaucracy by their art, showing through sarcasm and guile what they thought of the Russian way of life. It was heartening to think that these clever artists used their skills in downing Russia as a miserable country.

We were also taken to the Maimonides exhibition with his original drawings, letters and corrections of his famous writings. Although I would have liked to spend more time there, I felt my legs weakening, so we gave up and went to one of the lovely coffee shops to sit and ponder on the marvels that the Israel Museum has in store for their millions of visitors every year.

Cecily Hanson deserves a vote of thanks for all her hard work in organizing this outing.
