Getting Older

It is strange to me

To feel more me

As I tread more slowly on this earth

Skipping not a word used in my dictionary.

From so long ago

But instead of regret

Appreciate it's telling me

To see other things instead.

A pebble becomes more meaningful to me

it's shape and mottled colors fascinate and

brings back memories to me.

Looking at this wondrous stone

Which in my youth

Was just a pebble to throw into a stream,

to hear it's sound,

as it landed with a bounce

Into the water travelling down the stream.

Isn't it peculiar I wonder at my age

what a new gift I've been given

As I tread along my way

A different perspective from a life so long ago

Each day a different day

Of wonderment, fulfillment and surprises,

discovering so many things I never ever knew

Which create stories in my mind

of new found things.

Almost like a pile of bricks which grow in so many directions

Which bring me happiness and gratitude

As I each day

discover secrets I never knew

I was never told

Of the gifts of growing old.
