Friends of ESRA Help our Children

Some of the guests who attended the fundraising event

Friends of ESRA, composed primarily of Israeli Anglos and UK residents with homes in Israel, organized for the second consecutive year, a most successful fundraising dinner in aid of ESRA's "Give a Child a Future" Campaign. David and Beverly Saffrin most generously hosted, once again, this event in their beautiful home. Some 70 plus guests participated, with each donating NIS 1000 to the Campaign.

Brenda Katten, chair of ESRA, welcomed the guests and expressed deep appreciation to the host and hostess as well as to the sponsors who had covered all the expenses. She spoke specifically of the three projects that would benefit as a result of the evening, namely, The Right Track Centers, Bayit Cham and Students Build a Community.

The guest speaker, MK Isaac Herzog, Chair of the Labor Party and Leader of the Opposition, opened his remarks by speaking enthusiastically of ESRA's important contribution in helping in the successful absorption of English speaking immigrants through our manifold programs, as well as the meaningful difference ESRA makes to the wider community in Israel – especially the younger sector living in areas of deprivation. He remembered the early days of ESRA and, in particular, the dynamism of ESRA's founder Merle Guttmann.

Herzog gave a stimulating and interesting overview of the current situation and graciously answered numerous questions.

A presentation was made to Isaac Herzog, in appreciation of his finding the time - in his busy calendar - to address this Friends of ESRA gathering.

ESRA's thanks go to Beverly & David Saffrin and every guest whose participation will ensure a better tomorrow for the children who benefit from our ESRA projects.
