City Honors ‘Dynamic Duo’

Posing for a selfie ... Lawrence and Glenis Bertfield

In the month of April our dedicated volunteers, Glenis and Lawrence Bertfield, formerly from the UK, were nominated by Raanana Municipality as Volunteers of the Month.

Glenis and Lawrence have been volunteering for nearly seven years and started by organizing a 'walking bus' to Ariel School in Raanana.

They are both members of the ESRA Executive.

Glenis is ESRA's Central Region Coordinator and heads the ESRA's Befrienders group. She organizes training days for the group of befrienders and then places them with people who are sick, bereaved or lonely. The volunteers spend at least one hour a week with their 'client'. Glenis also organizes events to raise funds for ESRA'S community projects - the most recent event was the lecture with Miri Eisen, a retired colonel of the Israeli army.

Lawrence is acting chair of ESRA's fundraising committee and second hand shops. He also organizes ESRA's mid-week hikes each month and there are usually up to 50 people registered for each hike. This gives an opportunity for English speakers to get to know Israel through hiking as well as to meet people in a healthy and outdoor environment.

Glenis and Lawrence take great pleasure in helping others and organizing social events, while at the same time in keeping busy with volunteering.
