Aryeh Green starts his all-Israel trek in the south of Israel in Eilat and makes his way north on the Israel National Trail, the Shvil Yisrael. Midway, in the area of Jerusalem, he switches gears and covers the remainder of the Trail from north to south. The head of the Israel Trail is close to the Lebanese border, not far from the Alawite village of Ghajar. The border actually runs west to east, cutting Ghajar in half. The lower part is in Israel. Aryeh continues his hike/trek and proceeds south to his final destination, his home in Beit Shemesh, outside of Jerusalem. All in all, he covered about 800 kms or 500 miles and it took him 42 days to complete this awesome journey.

Awesome because with each stop along the way, Aryeh connects it with our Jewish history. Awesome because he is a people person and connects with friends and strangers everywhere. I was fascinated by his visit in Kfar HaShalom, near Dimona, with the African Hebrew Israelites of Jerusalem, also known as the Black Hebrews...a very interesting community. Awesome because Aryeh manages to connect with Trail Angels...people who open up their homes to Trail trekkers. A vintner himself, he connects with vintners en route.

What prompted Aryeh Green to hike the Israel Trail? An unwanted divorce. He has time to think things out during the course of his time on the Trail. He has a loving family that supports him. He forgives his former wife and gets on with the rest of his life. He tries to understand her...to understand himself. So much to be thankful for.

Who is Aryeh Green? He is a lover of Israel, its people, a lover of Judaism, an activist, a pro-Israel lecturer, here and abroad, senior advisor to Natan Sharansky, an author, a friend, a father, and a husband. Yes, he is remarried to a beautiful and lovely woman...I know. And I know his lovely family as well.

I enjoyed this book and I think you will too.
