Sharyn Weizman was born in Washington, D.C. and grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland. She graduated from the University of Maryland with degrees in Education, French and TEFL. She also met her Israeli husband Shlomo there. Sharyn was seven months pregnant in 1981 when they made aliyah with their 3-year old-son; their third son was born a few years later.
A chance encounter, shortly after aliyah, with someone (who is still a good friend today) introduced her to ESRA in its early days and a newly formed mother and baby group. From that time ESRA has been an important part of her life. She volunteered in the ESRA Second Hand Shop in Raanana for nine years.
In Israel Sharyn renewed her teaching skills at Beit Berl and as a result of the course she co-authored a text book for weak learners of English. She then taught English to adults and trained and supervised language teachers. Years later, her organizational skills led her to high tech where she worked as a technical writer / editor.
Sharyn’s interests and passions are many – she’s an avid practitioner of Yang style Tai Chi, enjoys swimming laps, playing bridge, being part of a wonderful book club, collecting Israeli ceramics, genealogy and of course, food – both cooking, reading about cooking and going to restaurants. (She’s written over 400 Trip Advisor reviews.)
