Dave Bloom was born and educated in Salisbury, Rhodesia now Harare, Zimbabwe. He was active in Habonim Rhodesia and Bakoach between 1971/2 as well as Chairman of the Rhodesian Zionist Youth Council.

He came to live in Israel in 1973. He is married to Gail (nee Hellig) ex Cape Town. They were founding members of Kochav Yair where they have lived for nearly 30 years.

Dave worked for Reuters for 20 years including stints of 5 years as Manager Sub-Sahara Africa based in Harare and Marketing Manager in London for 3 years. He has been a partner in a software company Exsys since 1997. He is also a partner in a Personal History company – Milestones and Meanings.

He is currently chairman of Telfed - S A Zionist Federation (Israel). Dave was the Founder and administrator of the Zimbabwe Jewish Community website – recording history of that community.

The Blooms have two married daughters and six grandchildren
