I Belong To The ESRA Book Club – Do You?

When does trauma tip over into insanity; does imagining your dead mother spewing weekly abuse at you over the phone prove you're mad?And why is it okay to insult Jews at football matches and during standup, when a similar comment about gays or Pakistanis would cancel you in a flash?

ESRA's brand new Book Club dived headlong into big issues like these as we launched our monthly ZOOM meetings, first examining Eleonore Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeywell, and then David Baddiel's Jews Don't Count. Participants from Israel and around the world shared their feelings about the books, (and about being in a book club); the only hurdle still to overcome is how to share the cakes and coffee.

The lively discussions are led by Dr. Pamela Peled, journalist and lecturer at Beit Berl College and Reichman University, and Carol Novis, former writer for The Jerusalem Post, the Cape Times and other publications.

For a nominal fee (25 shekel) anyone can sign up and support a good cause every time you read a book. Our regular slot is the last Thursday of the month at 7.30 p.m. Israel time; hurry to register through ESRA today.

We are open to suggestions – please feel free to email us with titles you'd like to discuss:
