ESRA Five Towns' Literary Talks

ESRA Five Towns has launched an exciting program of in-person literary talks by local authors instigated by branch honorary secretary, Jane Krivine.

The theme was launched to great acclaim in April by popular literary lecturer, Bonita Posen, who vividly evoked the Yiddish Writers of the Lands of the Old Ukraine in order to raise funds for ESRA's appeal for Ukrainian olim and refugees.

In May, sunset drinks on the terrace at the home of ESRA branch officers, Sylvia and Andy Harwood, set the tone for the first local author soirée during which Reva Mann, author of her "racy memoir", The Rabbi's Daughter held the audience spellbound.

Caroline Goldberg Igra

Two morning coffee talks took place in June and July. Caroline Goldberg Igra revealed how she developed her personal journey into writing through delving into the complexities of her own mother-daughter relationships and her surprise discovery of Jewish life in the American prairies.

Looking east, Pamela Levene shared insights and anecdotes gleaned through her multiple trips to Japan.

Personal stories from his varied career enlivened another "Sunset Drinks on the Terrace" with journalist and author, Paul Alster. He also explored Israel's future through discussing his fictional book, Kin or Country.

Further entertaining speakers are planned for the coming months.
