Since the tragic events of October 7, Israel has witnessed a sharp rise in Post Trauma Stress Disorder (PTSD) cases, particularly among soldiers and veterans. It is estimated that at least 80,000 individuals are suffering from trauma, underscoring the urgent need for specialized care and support.
Among those deeply committed to assisting PTSD soldiers were Niv Raviv and Nirel Ziri, a devoted couple who tragically lost their lives in the attack on Kibbutz Kfar Azza. In their memory, and to fulfil their dream of supporting traumatized soldiers, Niv's mother, Tami Raviv, embarked on an extraordinary mission, establishing a dedicated treatment center for PTSD sufferers.
A Haven for Healing
The Niv Nirel Center, located in the serene surroundings of Beit Yanai, with breathtaking views of the Mediterranean, provides state-of-the-art treatment for soldiers grappling with PTSD.The Center combines cutting-edge medical treatments with holistic therapies, offering a comprehensive approach to trauma recovery.
Tami Raviv worked closely with medical director, Dr Kfir Ferrer, a leading psychiatrist specializing in war trauma, to design the Center. Additionally, the Lev Hasharon Mental Health Center provides vital clinical support to ensure the highest standards of care. The facility boasts a team of over 20 experienced trauma specialists who also collaborate with international trauma centers to implement the latest treatment protocols.
Funding and Expansion Efforts
The Israeli Ministry of Health Ministry, together with the Jewish Federations of North America's Israel Emergency Campaign, has contributed funding that has been instrumental in the Center's formative months.
Looking ahead, the Center will rely heavily on donations in support of patient care. To expand its capacity to treat soldiers and veterans suffering from PTSD, two adjacent buildings are currently being renovated which, once completed, will enable the Center to treat more than 1,200 soldiers in need.
