Renee Sacks was born on October 5, 1935 and passed away on January 21, 2021.
She was raised in Brooklyn, New York and spent most of her adolescent years between New York and Tel Aviv.
Her grandfather Shmuel Sacks was the founder of Meshi Sacks (Sacks Silks), one of the early textile factories in Israel. She immigrated to Israel in 1950.
In 1954 she married her husband, Arie Goldstein, now 91. He was the founder of Tadiran.
Through her adult life she was involved with various social organizations, starting with WIZO, working with Orah Namir, later in the Council for Beautiful Israel with Aura Herzog, and for many years in ESRA as a very active member of the Fundraising Committee.
She is deeply mourned by her husband Arie, her three children, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
From the ESRA Office Staff
Renee Goldstein was a valuable part of the ESRA team and so very highly thought of by the staff. She was a dedicated volunteer and never sought praise or attention, content to do the best job she could and she always succeeded.
For long years once a week Renee would come to the office and sit for hours making membership calls. It was a delight to listen to her calm, modest manner whilst chatting to members on the phone.
Renee was an active member of both the Executive and Fundraising Committees. Every year she was highly involved with the Annual Fundraising Concert, organizing the event, selling tickets with great success and she took upon herself, each year, to get a donation of flowers for the stage.
She strongly believed in the work of ESRA and reached out to so many people, whether it be friends in synagogue, neighbors, or an English speaking business person about whom she had read in ESRA or in the general press. She wrote letters to embassies, donors, new members and insisted on personally delivering the letters with a promotional folder.
We all enjoyed having her in the office, sharing lovely stories of her family of whom she was so very proud. There is a hole here at ESRA without Renee's smile and work ethic. She will be missed by all of us.
From Adele and Mike Rubin
Renee Goldstein was a dear friend of ours. We were neighbors in Herzliya Pituach and when she joined ESRA, her home became the center for our local ESRA committee meetings and functions. I have to this day an invitation to an ESRA fundraiser at the Goldstein home on 9/11, the day of the attack on the Twin Towers in New York. Our thoughts are with her husband Arie, her children and grandchildren.
