Very little is known about the contribution of British Jewry even before the establishment of the State of Israel and this community has much to be proud of.
For the past three years I have been working on a research for my PhD in the Department of Israel Studies at the University of Haifa. The findings so far are fascinating. My research deals with the practical contribution of British Jewry during the Mandate period. This contribution is examined from several aspects: immigration, financial contributions through philanthropic funds, investments, pioneering settlement, women's activities and volunteering for the army during the War of Independence.
As part of the research on aliyah, I have built a database containing over 2000 names of immigrants and volunteers from England, including many genealogical details. Anyone interested in finding information about family members who came to Israel during this period is more than welcome to contact me directly to the email below.
I would also love to hear your stories about family and friends who came to Israel during the Mandate.
So please do contact me, either to tell me your stories or to find information about family members: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
